Preparation Of Accounts

Our work is tailored to meet the individual needs of each business. It is designed to be practical, economic and effective.

We prepare all types of Accounts, ranging from those compiled from incomplete records, to others prepared using a complete double entry, computerised system.

Obviously, the better the records, the easier it is to produce the Accounts, which is reflected in the fee we charge.

We will always let you know how you could improve your record keeping for the future should it be not quite perfect this time. We will advise you on the most suitable system for your business whether you wish to keep the records yourself, employ a bookkeeper or utilise our bookkeeping service.

Should you choose to use our bookkeeping service, we can deal with some or all areas you may require from writing up the cashbook and debtors and creditors ledgers, to preparing management accounts.

We are members of the Sage Accountants Club and can offer our clients discounts when they purchase Sage accounting or payroll software through us. We will also offer advice on setting up and implementing such software and ensure that it is tailored to the specific requirements of each client.

Advice For New Business

We offer all the advice and guidance you need to help you start and develop your business.

  • We help you consider the points that need to be addressed at the start of your venture such as deciding the most advantageous legal structure, obtaining finance, registration with the tax authorities and record keeping etc.
  • We have built up a wide range of contacts in many areas of professional and commercial enterprise and can guide you in the right direction.
  • If you are not sure whether to start a new venture, let alone how it should be structured, our team will meet with you and talk it through. There is no charge for this initial interview. Just phone for an appointment.
  • Taxation

All types of taxpayers – individuals, partnerships, companies can be required to file Tax Return Forms annually.

It may be necessary for the business to complete a form, as well as the individuals involved.

There are strict time limits for submission of these.

Automatic penalties will be levied not only for late submission, but also for inaccurately completed forms and the late payment of tax liabilities.

At Cross & Bowen we have invested heavily in modern technology to assist with the accurate and speedy completion of such forms as well as compliance with the time limits.

Our quality systems enable us to keep a continual watch on the progress of tax return preparation so that no client is allowed to overlook any approaching time limit. Also, we endeavour to ensure that all the required information is received and dealt with in time.

Consequently, those clients who provide us with information in plenty of time, are able to have enough notice of their tax liabilities to ensure they have sufficient funds available to pay these on the due date. There are interest and penalty charges for late payment of tax.

Not only can our clients be confident that their return accurately reflects the information given to us but that once submitted to the HM Revenue & Customs, speedy acceptance and confirmation of tax liabilities will follow.

We also offer assistance with capital gains tax calculations and inheritance tax planning. The rules surrounding CGT and IHT are very complex and we recommend clients contact us to discuss their individual circumstances.

    Professional Fees Protection

As we are all aware from articles published in the Press, HM Revenue & Customs are significantly increasing the number of enquiries opened into Taxpayer’s Returns. This can be demonstrated by the fact that more resources are being allocated to the Enquiry sections of all HM Revenue & Customs districts. No one is immune from selection – HM Revenue & Customs are entitled to select cases completely at random.

There has been a significant increase over the years in the number of enquiries opened by HM Revenue & Customs into tax returns. These enquiries are very time-consuming as well as expensive in terms of accountancy fees.

Therefore, we have taken a policy decision to offer our clients an annual low cost policy to protect against the cost of fees incurred in such an enquiry by HM Revenue & Customs.

With the increased likelihood of anyone being selected for any enquiry, at least this removes the worry of the costs incurred.

Please contact us if you would like any further information.

We also offer a full range of personal taxation services to our individual clients.

Our clients, who range from private individuals to companies with turnover in excess of £15 million, are spread across a wide range of business sectors.
